The reality show Chhoriyan Chali Gaon brought audiences face-to-face with the real struggles of rural life and the competitive spirit among its participants. Among the top six contestants, Maera Mishra won hearts with her honesty, resilience, and strong mindset. In an exclusive conversation with Mayapuri magazine journalist Shilpa Nalamwar, Maera opened up about her experiences, her clash with Anita Hassanandani, and her emotional journey. Here’s what she shared—

How was your journey in Chhoriyan Chali Gaon?

I believe it’s very important to be real in a reality show. If you’re not real, there’s no point in being there. Even when I did my first reality show, I was completely myself. This time too, I decided not to lose my identity, no matter what. I always spoke my mind and never talked behind anyone’s back. (Chhoriyan Chali Gaon Maera Anita controversy)

What was it like entering the show midway? Did you feel it was a disadvantage or an advantage?

Personally, I felt it was a disadvantage. The moment I entered, I didn’t feel welcomed at all. The show was tough, but staying there was even tougher. It was mentally exhausting. But I’m human, and humans make mistakes. I ignored others’ mistakes and stayed strong. I gave my 100–200% and performed even better because I stood alone.

What was the reason behind your conflict with Anita Hassanandani?

I’ve always had clashes with Anita because, as they say, “Two swords can’t stay in one sheath.” If anyone could give me real competition, it was Anita. We are both actors, both have done good shows, and both have played antagonists. We had similar strengths and weaknesses. Our personalities were so strong that friendship was impossible.

Chhoriyan Chali Gaon: Why did Anita Hassanandani break down on the first night?

Several promos showed Anita saying she’s the most deserving because she left her family behind. What’s your take on that?

I’ve often heard people say, “I left my son.” But that was your decision. Nobody forced you. Everyone left something behind—some left their children, some their husbands, some their parents. So, I don’t think anyone should use that as a reason to claim they’re more deserving. For me, what mattered was why we should be seen as better. I always said I’m mentally stronger, and that’s why I’m deserving.

Samriddhi Speaks Out: Anita vs Maera Drama and Bullying on Chhoriyan Chali Gaon

Did the mental pressure and bullying affect you?

Initially, yes, it did. You think it’ll be like living in a hostel, like college life—but it wasn’t. Still, I like challenges. The more I was targeted, the better I performed. I stayed calm, but after a point, I had to speak up.

How did it feel to make it to the Top 6?

I was really happy to reach the Top 6. Maybe if I had lifted a few more bricks, I would’ve been in the Top 3 (laughs). But winning was never my priority. My goal was to experience the show, understand village life, and live it. I think I did my part well.

What’s your message to the audience and fans?

A big thank you to everyone who supported and loved me. I think people connected with my honesty. I just hope I didn’t disappoint you all. Sending lots of love to everyone!
